STORAGE — Browser storage (localStorage)

Saves your style/city filter choices, any venues you've hidden, and your last-viewed tab — all in this browser. Clearing site data, or switching browsers or devices, loses it. Use Export/Import in the Settings tab to move it or back it up, and Reset in Settings to go back to defaults.

Dance Map

Goal

Track partner-dance venues, clubs, and recurring social/class nights — West Coast Swing, vintage swing/blues, contra/folk, and multi-style ballroom studios — around Fort Wayne, Goshen, Indianapolis, and Muncie, IN (plus South Bend/Mishawaka and Elkhart, both near Goshen, Avon/Greenwood near Indianapolis, and Portland, IN, a second location for one Muncie studio), so it's easy to see who's dancing where, when, and how to reach them. Austin's own club (Fort Wayne Westies) is included for completeness even though it isn't currently hosting events. Round 2 deliberately widened the net — 31 venues/hosts as of this writing, up from 15 in the first pass — favoring breadth over verification per Austin's explicit ask, so he can reference and clean up the list himself. This entire list — every venue, schedule, and classification — was researched and written by Claude (an AI assistant) working inside Austin's account in September 2026, not hand-curated or independently fact-checked by Austin himself. Expect some inaccurate, outdated, or missing details, especially around exact class times and one-off social/workshop dates that mostly live on Facebook rather than a crawlable website; see the in-app Sources tab for the full caveat and the per-entry 🤖 AI-sourced badge (nothing carries a ✅ Austin-confirmed badge yet, since none of this has been hand-checked).

The Venues & Hosts tab is the canonical data source. Every venue lives in the HOSTS array (and every event series in EVENTS) directly in index.html — that's the one place to read or edit this data, for Austin or any future Claude session, rather than re-deriving it or keeping a copy anywhere else.

Layout

Full-width page. Title top-left; a "← Austin's toolbox" link and the Settings button sit top-right, inline with the title. Below that is the tab bar, then a collapsible Filters panel (style and city checkboxes), then the current tab's content.

Views

Six tabs (plus Settings, in the header):

All six data tabs share one filter panel and the same underlying filtered venue/event list.

Filters

Filters, hidden venues, and your last-viewed tab all persist in this browser via localStorage; Settings has a one-click reset back to the defaults above, plus Export/Import for moving that saved state between browsers or backing it up.

How schedules are generated

Each event carries a recurrence rule — weekly on a given weekday, the Nth weekday of the month, or a single confirmed one-off date — and the Weekend and Calendar tabs compute real upcoming dates from that rule at load time, in your own browser (nothing is precomputed or hardcoded per-date). Where no regular schedule could be confirmed from an official source, the rule is marked irregular (or dormant for Fort Wayne Westies) rather than inventing a pattern, and the app says so directly instead of showing a date that isn't real.

Current state

Work in progress — a first pass across four requested cities plus two nearby extensions (South Bend/Mishawaka and Portland). Fifteen venues/hosts and a dozen event series are in HOSTS/EVENTS in index.html. No geocoding or driving-distance feature yet (unlike the Renaissance Faire Tracker this was modeled on) — coordinates are approximate, taken from the sources in the Sources tab rather than freshly geocoded, and there's no "distance from my address" filter in v1. See the in-app Sources tab for what's known to be missing (mostly Facebook-only socials and Latin-night bar events that don't show up in web search).
